    Lionshead Thread

    (12 reviews)

I am a certified teacher with 32 years of working with middle and high school students. I have been sewing since I was a child, "sneaking" into my Mother's sewing room and sewing on her machine. I was very involved in 4-H, I took every sewing class that I could take in high school, I was in charge of the costume / wardrobe construction for our high school drama program, and I majored in Home Economics Education at Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor's of Science degree. I have sewn and performed alterations on prom and wedding dresses. I know construction from fabric to finished clothing. I am passionate about sewing, knitting, and crafting! It is fun to teach my passion to others, no matter their age. It is fun to help others bring their ideas to life.

We offer sewing, embroidery and digitizing services, fabricating window treatments, bed linens, decorative pillows, cushions, etc., upholstery, and sewing lessons. It is my belief that we are drawn to things that we do well, and sewing happens to be my thing. Now combine that with my ability to interact with people; it makes for a winning combination. The business is further enhanced by the fact that my very talented husband does my installs and the upholstery (other than the sewing). I am Sew Sure!

Because we teach only one skill at a time in a short amount of time, students can focus on skills they need without committing to a weekend long class. Also, since we only teach 3 students at a time, you have the ability to ask pertinent questions and have help in every class. We are not trying to sell you products or projects, we want to teach you skills that fit your budget and time pressed schedule. When students get that "OH WOW! I CAN USE THAT!" look during class. Also when students come back and have not only improved their sewing, but taken on a harder project and had success. Bravo!

I have always loved sewing and have been drawn to it as a creative outlet and a method to achieve goals. Not to mention,I am good for the budget. My mother taught me at her knee (and from outside, looking in to the basement window to watch her at her sewing machine for hours on end) and she would even let me sit on her lap at the machine if I folded my arms quietly. Through my youth and many projects, I realized the possibilities, enjoyment and usefulness of this skill, so I continued my college education in this area, taking every class I could. I did get my associate's degree in clothing and textiles from BYU-Idaho (back when it was Rick's College). I was not satisfied enough with that, so I went to BYU-Provo and worked hard to get my Bachelor of Arts degree in fashion design -- Emphasis: Costume. Of course, in the meantime, I gained a fantastic husband and six great children. I started my "Studio Julie Snow" right after graduation in 1997 and have been operating ever since. My studio has primarily been focused on custom clothing creations, alterations, home decorating projects, and sewing lessons.

For over 20 years, I have worked closely with people of all shapes, sizes, and ages to help them create the custom look they desire. I have been called the miracle worker because I solve difficult fitting issues—including those presented by pregnant brides—while maintaining the design integrity of the wedding dress. I am experienced in altering formal wear as well as all of the more mundane fitting and mending issues. I have never missed a deadline and am a perfectionist. If you'd like to learn how to sew, whether to save money on hemming and mending or to make your own clothes, let me teach you! It's a fun and worthwhile endeavor.

Thumbtack Spotlight

JM Designs

(4 reviews)

I love to sew! I have been sewing and designing for as long as I can remember. As a child in the '60s, I was taught to sew by my mother. It quickly became a passion for me. I was happiest when my hands were busy. By middle school, I was taking lessons from a friend and then studied fashion design in Colorado State University, where I honed my skills in design.

The more challenging the project is, the more fun it is for Janet. She has done a number of unusual costumes and bridal outfits that really pleased her clients.

I have many favorites. I did a bridal outfit that was based on the comic book character "Harlequin". It was a red and black stretch vinyl bodysuit that fit the bride like a glove! My most recent favorite was a superhero costume for a college mascot. I created a gold lame cape, a bodysuit and gold boots with flames. I've been lucky enough to create many amazing wedding gowns, but, of course, my favorite is the one I made for my daughter.

For unique, quality, and well-made clothing, JM Designs is the name you can count on!
